Home Is Where the Collision Is

Anthony Rizzo took a hard slide into San Diego Padres catcher Austin Hedges in Mondays meeting between the Cubs and Padres.  The MLB has ruled that Rizzo violated the rules of baseball on the play by colliding with the catcher instead of making a play towards the plate.  Rizzo was attempting to tag up on a line drive out hit by Kris Bryant in the sixth inning, the throw beat Rizzo to the plate which was when the collision occurred.  Hedges was hurt on the play.  The MLB will not fine or suspend Rizzo for the play even though he violated league rules.  This is the absolute correct call.  When looking at suspensions and fines the history of the player should be considered, Rizzo is not a dirty player and has never been in trouble with the league.  This was simply a hard baseball play that went wrong.
