The road back to the postseason has been a bumpy one for the defending world champions. The Cubs have played inconsistent baseball for a majority of the season but when their backs are against the wall they always respond.
Most recently, the Cubs backs were pressed against the wall when they were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers at home and saw their division lead drop from five games to two games. Both the Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals were inching closer to the top of the Central leading up to the Cubs-Cardinals series when the Cubs responded. They swept the Cardinals in convincing fashion and now hold a six game lead on the Cardinals and a four game lead on the second place Brewers.
The next big test for the Cubs will be this coming weekend when they travel to Milwaukee to take on the Brewers and potentially solidify their first place position. We’ve seen the Cubs at their best and it’s pretty damn impressive. They control the division and with the lack of difficulty remaining in their schedule the Cubs should easily find themselves in the postseason again.
